Free Tax Preparation Internship
Alternatives' Free Community Tax Program is seeking interns for Spring 2010.
Hey students! Are you looking for an internship where making copies and coffee AREN'T your primary duties? Are flexible hours and a creative approach important to you?
Alternatives is entering its seventh year of offering free tax preparation services. In the last four years, we've prepared nearly 7,000 returns, resulting in over $6 million in refunds. Our goal is to help all eligible workers claim the credits they deserve (without paying high fees!) and to help them turn those refunds into financial assets.
The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is the most important of these credits:
- The EITC is the federal government's largest anti-poverty program
- In 2002, the EITC lifted 4.9 million people - 2.7 million of them children - above the federal poverty line.
- In 2003, over 22 million working families received EITC. Yet research indicates that 15 to 20 percent of those who are eligible fail to claim the credit because they don't know about it or cannot obtain the help they need to file a tax return.
If you are ready to work hard for a program that's in the national spotlight, then we're looking for you. When you join the team at Alternatives' free tax preparation program, you will find out it's about much more than taxes.
